How to identify your Samsung Galaxy model
Posted by Repair Media on
Introduction
With so many Samsung Galaxy devices on the market, it can be tricky to know exactly which model you have. Whether you need to check compatibility for a repair, find the right case, or update your software, identifying your Samsung Galaxy model is quick and easy. Here's how.
Method 1: Check the Settings Menu
This is the most reliable method:
- Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy device
- Scroll down and tap About phone
- Tap Software information or look for Model name and Model number
- Your full model name (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) and model number (e.g. SM-S928B) will be displayed here
Method 2: Check the Physical Device
Some Samsung devices have the model information printed on the device itself:
- Back of the phone — older models may have the model number printed near the bottom
- Under the battery — if your device has a removable battery, the model number is usually on a sticker inside the battery compartment
- SIM card tray — some models have a small label on or near the SIM tray
Method 3: Check the Original Packaging
If you still have the box your Samsung came in, the model name and number will be printed on a label on the outside of the box, usually alongside the IMEI number and serial number.
Method 4: Use the Dialler Code
You can also find your model information using a secret dialler code:
- Open the Phone app and go to the dialler
- Type *#1234# or *#12580*369#
- A screen will appear showing your device's software and hardware information, including the model number
Understanding Samsung Model Numbers
Samsung model numbers follow a pattern that can tell you a lot about your device:
- SM-A = Galaxy A series (mid-range)
- SM-S = Galaxy S series (flagship)
- SM-F = Galaxy Z Fold/Flip series (foldable)
- SM-G = Older Galaxy S/Note series
- SM-T = Galaxy Tab (tablet)
