How to pair AirPods to a non-Apple device
Posted by Repair Media on
Introduction
AirPods are designed to work seamlessly with Apple devices, but they can also be paired with non-Apple devices such as Android phones, Windows PCs, and smart TVs. The experience won't include all the Apple-specific features, but you'll still get great audio quality. Here's how to do it.
How to Pair AirPods with an Android Phone
- Open the AirPods case lid (keep the AirPods inside)
- Press and hold the small button on the back of the case until the status light flashes white
- On your Android phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
- Your AirPods should appear in the list of available devices (they'll show as "AirPods" or your custom name)
- Tap on them to pair
Once connected, you can use your AirPods normally. Note that features like automatic ear detection, Siri, and battery percentage in the notification bar may not work on Android.
How to Pair AirPods with a Windows PC
- Open the AirPods case and press and hold the back button until the light flashes white
- On your Windows PC, click the Start menu and go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices
- Click Add device and select Bluetooth
- Select your AirPods from the list
- Click Connect
Your AirPods will now work as a Bluetooth headset on your Windows PC.
How to Pair AirPods with a Smart TV
- Put your AirPods into pairing mode by pressing and holding the back button until the light flashes white
- On your Smart TV, navigate to Settings > Sound > Sound Output (menu names vary by brand)
- Select Bluetooth Speaker List or Bluetooth Audio Devices
- Select your AirPods from the list to connect
Note: Not all Smart TVs support Bluetooth audio output. Check your TV's manual if you can't find the Bluetooth audio settings.
Tips for Using AirPods with Non-Apple Devices
- Battery life: You won't see battery percentage on non-Apple devices, so charge regularly
- Controls: Tap and press controls still work, but Siri won't be available
- Switching devices: To switch back to an Apple device, simply select the AirPods from the Bluetooth menu on your iPhone or Mac
- Audio quality: Sound quality remains excellent regardless of the device
